Gelson’s Market

Gelson’s Market

Gelson’s Market opened its doors in Burbank, CA, in July 1951. Founded by brothers Eugene and Bernie, their goal was to pay homage to their parents’ Iowa grocery store and provide the same exemplary customer service.

Over the years, Gelson’s transitioned from an upscale grocery store to a supermarket offering its customers competitive prices. Today, Gelson’s has 27 locations in California, stretching from San Diego to Santa Barbara.

The private equity firm TPG purchased Gelson’s in 2014, later selling it to Japanese retailer Pan Pacific International Holdings (PPIH) in 2021.

“We have long appreciated TPG’s understanding of the Gelson’s brand and its strong support over the past seven years, from financing newly built and acquired stores to investing in our Santa Fe Springs distribution center,” said Rob McDougall, president and CEO of Gelson’s Market. “As we look to the future, we are excited about opportunities for new growth and partnerships under PPIH while remaining focused on our longtime commitment to the highest standards of quality, value, and unsurpassed customer service.”

POLA Marketing respects Gelson’s 70-plus years of commitment to emphasizing customer service and helped the supermarket chain in its continuous endeavor by utilizing SMS Marketing, Facebook Messenger Marketing, and Meta Ads.
